Black Friday Deals at Amazon

Have you ever gone shopping on Black Friday? I haven't. I don't like shopping in crowds and even try not to shop on weekends.

If there are things on your list, you can check out Amazon to save time, money and a lot of stress:

Is anyone venturing out to the stores today? If so, tell us what it was like.

Our family is going to the Newseum - a trip I've wanted to make for a long time and made much sweeter by Groupon's 50% ticket offer last week. This will be a trip for mom, dad and the older kids so we can really savor everything without worrying about one of the younger kids having a meltdown (Daniel especially does not like this kind of activity). I have a wonderful sitter coming over to watch Jesse, Daniel and Justin. She was a counselor from Camp Easter Seals and has been here twice since then, so they are looking forward to seeing her again.

The older kids are telling me I'm crazy because there will be a lot of traffic into DC, but I'm thinking that most people will be in the shopping malls and strips.

In any case, being trapped in the van for a few hours with a bunch of people who love to sing isn't my idea of a bad time at all :) And we are packing turkey sandwiches and other goodies - even though the last time we brought our own lunch on a museum trip, someone broke into our van and stole it - along with Tripp's MP3 player.

Cancel that. Sophia just got up and is still very sick - she's been battling strep throat - saw the doctor Monday and got an antibiotic but is not completely recovered. She will be leaving to go back to school tomorrow. So I guess the Newseum trip will have to wait. Maybe a quiet day at home with movies. . . .

What are you doing today?

Love,

Thanks to "Mommy Teach Me" and "Momology," our 2-1/2 year old loves art, so we're headed to the Art Institute of Chicago today. (She's actually been to art museums a lot now, so on our last visit an older couple commented on how she walks around like she owns the place. Thanks for the inspiration. So exciting to watch a little mind flourish!)

Barbara- I would *highly* recommend looking into Lemon Essential Oil for the strep throat. It works amazingly well at killing the bacteria. It needs to be therapeutic grade (you can get it online via amazon) and applied directly to the throat neat, as well as in water and gargled with and to drink, and diffused into the air. For someone like Sophia who relies on her voice, it could be a real life save during the cold/flu season. (oh- just a warning, the bottles are small and so will seem expensive, but a little will go a long long way. My bottle of lemon oil lasted us 3 years.)

I would not go near a store today !!! My children are sick too :( I'm glad you made the choice to go back to amazon, I followed the debate and felt great sympathy for you as it really was a difficult call. Can you remind me how to shop at amazon so that you get the benefit ? I know you have explained it before, but I cannot remember and can't seem to find it after a brief check of the archives. Thanks !

Cynthia -

Thanks for your support. All you have to do is go through any of my links to amazon to place an order. It doesn't cost you anything extra, but I will get a small percentage from anything you order in any category.

Two exceptions: things already in your shopping cart will not be credited - so if you have items there, you would have to reorder in order for me to have credit.

I will not get credit if you have bookmarked my link and use your bookmark. For MommyLife to receive credit you must remember to come to my site and use the link.

Thanks so much!
