Foreign special needs children need families
Another entry on adoption - specifically foreign institutionalized babies, many with Down syndrome - passed on by Jawan:
Go to No Greater Joy Mom and read Adeye's account of her visit to a Ukraine orphanage. Soak in the pictures of the kids with special needs, who lie in their pajamas in cribs in crowded rooms - no stimulation, no encouragement and obviously not even enough to eat.
Adeye has created a poignant photo journal - which I hope inspires someone to try to make a difference in one life. As Mother Teresa said, "One can do no great things, only small things with great love."
But I want to share the heartbreaking words Adeye wrote:
Friends, no amount of words can express how these photos make me feel. I feel like I left a piece of my heart in that room. I ache for these children. I long, with everything that is within me, for them to be adopted. I long for them to experience the life that Hailee now has. They have to be saved from life in an institution. They deserve to be given an opportunity to learn and grow and become everything that God has created them to be. They deserve a family...just like every child. Every single child in that room can be adopted. The sad reality is that a foreign adoption is pretty much their only hope. Children with special needs are very rarely adopted by their own people in this country. It's just the way it is.
Some days, like today, I just long to find a solution to the orphan crisis. I know that so many of you who read my blog feel the same way. It is an overwhelming problem. I just cannot even imagine how the Lord must weep over what He sees. I am often tempted to run to the Lord with all of my "why, Lord?" questions...
"Why are the so many orphans?"
"Why are there not more families rushing to adopt them?"
"Why do the children have to suffer while they wait?"
"When are things going to change?""Can't you just do something about it, Lord?"
But I don't ask anymore. My answer from heaven is always the same...
"What are YOU going to do about it, Adeye?"
Remember, if you are moved to adopt, look for funding sources. Ask your church to take up a special collection. No Greater Joy carries links to families seeking funding. You can add your link or help another family - for instance this one: Waiting to bring Sergei home.

My heart aches for these little ones in these situations. Reminds me that even if now isn't the time for our family to adopt, I can still be praying for these little souls.

Hello,
Thank you so much for posting about this! The last link on this article about helping the orphan, Sergei, is not working. It's a link to my blog at http://packofpashos.blogspot.com/2010/11/sweet-sergeis-fundraiser.html
Thank you, again for bringing attention to these sweet orphans!
Warm Blessings,
Debby

I am starting to feel that tug at my heart that my family is not complete. It would seem like we are not in a good place financially to have another or look into adoption but after this post I have to wonder if maybe I need to be more open minded.
