Must-have Christmas toy: Rody Horse
At a few readers' request - and out of my own curiosity - I'm browsing your purchases for ideas to share. While I can't see who bought what, I'm especially looking for Christmas gifts with staying power - presents that will be worth the money spent in terms of what they offer their recipients and how long they will continue to be useful.
I'll be sharing more on that subject too. While I love giving my kids gifts and definitely have been known - in my earlier years of motherhood - to go overboard, living in these times and with the awareness we have of other cultures, we need to be good stewards. While my giveaway page content is directed by items sent to me for review, on this page and in Barbara's Picks I would not recommend anything I wouldn't consider buying myself.
Which brings me to Rody - yesterday's most interesting purchase - and a gift that has everything going for it:
Made in Italy from super strong yet soft latex-free vinyl for long lasting use and durability, this horse is a great exercise product for indoors and smooth, safe outdoor surfaces. Promotes body coordination, balance and lymph circulation while providing a fun workout. Recommended for ages 3 through 5 years.
No wonder it's the #1 Hopper sold on Amazon right now. Read the reviews to see what other moms think
5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST TOY WE'VE BOUGHT SO FAR, January 31, 2008 By poesis (Western MA)Our son has been playing with his Rody since he got it when he was almost 2. He's always been particularly active and he took to it immediately. It's now more than a year and a half later and, while other toys and playthings have gone in and out of fashion, Rody is still his favorite with no sign of waning.
I can't believe how durable this thing is! Our son rides it HARD indoors and out, but Rody can certainly take a licking. It's so great to see a toy last these days.
It's also terrific for stimulating creative play--our son the cowboy has ridden his trusty horse Rody on many an exciting adventure. There was also the barn he built for Rody out of an old box, where Rody slept for a few weeks after we put him to bed each night. And during Christmastime, Rody was a reindeer pulling Santa's sleigh.
And it's incredible exercise too! He just looks like he's having so much fun on it. Our younger son is 16 months and has already started eyeballing Rody and trying to get on it. We'd better get a second one soon to avoid World War III in our house. I really can't recommend this toy enough. It's safe and fun and good for your kid. In these days when it seems that every toy is battery operated and obnoxious, nothing beats Rody for some good, old-fashioned fun. As a parent of 2 young children, and a VERY discriminating toy shopper, I'm delighted to recommend Rody whole-heartedly.
It's obvious the Rody Horse has great benefits for any child- developing balance and coordination, as well as encouraging bouncing out the ya-yas. But the Rody Horse is also a great find for parents of kids with disabilities, who will know exactly what I mean. Doeasn't this look like something you's see at physical therapy? But unlike physical therapy supplies, this is affordable for parents! And durable - who could ask for more?
If you don't have much room inside or you want to rein in your Rody Horse, Amazon also sells a Rody Horse Rocking Base. And in the interest of keeping parents from hyperventilating :) they offer a Rody Horse hand pump
.
Rody comes in all different colors, including but not limited to:
And just as I was feeling sorry for myself that I had no one young enough to buy one for, I came across the Rody Max, which I am putting on my Amazon wish list for Justin.
Sshhh!!!

I'd been reading about your struggle with amazon...I'll spare my 2 cents, but I found a retailer that I thought was, well kind of refreshing. After my order I received the customary order receipt but then I got an order confirmation that read as follows..."Thank you so much for choosing to do business with BooksAndDolls.com!
Your order should arrive within the week -if not sooner - in a box custom packed
especially for you. It has been blessed by the doll and toy fairies for a safe
journey, and carried to the United States Postal Service, Fayetteville NY
Station in an our Enchanted Dollwagon pulled by three very civilized trolls.
Once there it will be handed to the Postal Mistress with very strict
instructions to handle it carefully, and it has a nice big label on it telling
them where you wanted it delivered. Our Warehouse staff, led by Caramella
Marshmallow, has sprinkled some magic dust into the box to help your doll sleep
the journey away; it should arrive feeling quite refreshed and ready to play.
Thank you once again from:
Peter, Owner, Chief Doll Picker, Shelf Stocker, Site Designer and Director of
Charitible Gifting.
Addie, Foreign Operations Manager, and runs things when Peter goes to the Toy
and Doll Trade Shows. Also Peter's Boss.
Caramella Marshmallow, Doll Warehouse Manager and Fairy-in-Charge.
Rocky and Nemo; Guard Dogs Extraordinaire and Toy Safety Testers; Addie's
Bosses.
Sugar, Gracie and Oreo; Doll Warehouse Patrol Cats and Protectors of the Dolls.
Sir Corey the Bit and Sir Melvin the Byte; our Technology Directors and general
all around Computer Wizards and Software Wrasslers.
Bellythump, Pinkytoe & Maurice; Trolls
Colleen, Rick and Vaughn - our Laws and Numbers folks.
Benjamin and Sarah, where the Sun rises and the Moon sets and who carries
forward our dreams.
And finally, Thank-you on behalf of the thousands of children whose lives will
be a little bit better - because you trusted us with your business, and we give
10% of our profits to children's charities. God's Blessings on You and Yours,
The Laudins.
PS: Your credit card statement will show billing from The Pattycake Doll
Companies. And don't forget, 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed! "
I have not gotten my package yet (I only ordered it a few days ago), but I loved their family and God friendly message. I was looking for a doll for my son for his birthday. I was looking on ebay and I also stumbled on their site. Their price was comparable to what ebay retailers were offering and they full return policy the other retailers did not so I went with them. I was so pleasantly surprised by their response that I just thought I'd pass it on.

I was interested in the Rody horse and wondered how much it weighs? I'd like to ship it to our granddaughter overseas but not if it weighs too much. Thanks!

Hi Ellen - The beauty of shopping amazon is that they provide so much information. If you go back through my link to the Rody, you'll see it weighs 4.4 pounds. You can order it and have it sent overseas. Amazon will give you the amount of shipping before you finalize the order. If the shipping is too much, just drop the order before it's complete.
I have visions of children bopping around on these things all over the world Christmas morning. It really seems like the perfect gift!
