Reece's Rainbow: Down syndrome adoption
Reece's Rainbow combines two of my favorite subjects: Down syndrome and adoption.
Founded by Andrea Roberts, mother of an 8-year-old with Down syndrome - Reece - Reece's Rainbow works tirelessly to place institutionalized children with Down syndrome from foreign countries.
Parents have kids with disabilities in America experience everyday the benefits of living in a country where even the least among us are treated with dignity and respect (if they make it past the abortion option) Overseas they are often abandoned and neglected - left in cribs with no stimulation or encouragement to walk and play, no conversation or hugs.
As an international adoption agency. Reece's Rainbow has found adoptive families for more than 350+ orphaned children with Down syndrome and other special needs around the world.
They also have raised more than $700,000 in grant funds to make those adoptions possible for those willing but unable to afford adoption. As Andrea says, " I can say with great confidence that if we had a full grant for every child on our website, there would BE no children on our website. There are hundreds of families in the US and Canada who would give their left arm to bring one or more of these children home. The money is the ONLY thing standing in their way."
Our Sponsorship Program provides a unique opportunity for anonymous donors to contribute to the adoption journey of RR families. These children are viewed as outcasts with no ability to learn or be functional members of society. They languish in mental institutions, hidden away from the world in shame. If anyone does end up adopting because they were inspired this month, I hope you will let us all know!
Even if you are not able to adopt a child at this time, you truly can change the course of a child's life by helping adoptive families afford the costs of international adoption. $20, $50, $1000....whatever you have goes into an interest-bearing fund for ANY family adopting a child with Down syndrome. Click here to learn the many ways you can help!
Families interested in adopting should visit our New Family page for more information on our country programs, our waiting children, the costs, and the process in general.
