Waiting for the tooth fairy
It's been years since I had a visit from the tooth fairy, but I deserve one tonight.
I had a tooth pulled this morning - the last bottom left molar. It's a tooth that has been bothering me for almost 2 years and I've put off doing anything about it because it already had a root canal and crown and so it shouldn't have been hurting in the first place. I got several opinions but no one could see anything in the x-ray, so everyone's guess was that it must have a teensy crack.
Anyway, I finally decided enough was enough. I was starting to develop a phobia of the dentist. And it seems kind of counterproductive to sink a lot of money into my mouth at my age, so I just decided to get it pulled. Then I panicked, thinking that even with novocaine I couldn't stand someone tugging away trying to uproot the tooth. So I got sedation dentistry. It was definitely worth it.
Matt (2nd son) took me and brought me home, bought me gelato and made me a throne in the family room so I could watch movies and read junk magazines all day. It felt very unusual :) Maddy finished the day with me watching Grand Canyon.
Signing off from this very unproductive day. Plan to be back to blogging - and laundry - tomorrow. Have about a dozen giveaways to post, too.

I'm so glad you made a decision and got it taken care of. I can identify with your ambivalence, fears and procrastination. Though I brushed and flossed, I neglected to go to the dentist for years; and when I finally mustered up the courage,it cost me 5K and a ton of embarrassment. You must feel so relieved, and you have set a good example for your kids and readers!

Your kids are very sweet! The benifit of raising compassionate children!
I got one of my teeth pulled when I had braces several years ago. It was done before I knew what happened. I think you made a wise choice for two reasons; 1 - as you said you are older. 2 - I have read that root canals are not what they seem. Ever since doing research about that subject I decided I would never have a root canal done. If I come to that place tehy would pull my tooth out. You might want to look into oil pulling to help your oral health in the future. Just do a general google search. You will find lots of info.
