Michael Card: Sleep Sound in Jesus
I ran this a year ago - but for the benefit of new readers, want to run it again. I wish there were a YouTube of Michael Card singing The Lord Bless yOu and Keep You - or Sleep Sound in Jesus or the other wonderful songs and lullabies on this CD.
This is the kind of thing that becomes a part of the fabric of your family:
So grateful for my readers! You add so much to the information flow here. Thanks for your comments and emails - which often make me feel like we're brainstorming together on how to bring more to our motherhood.
Erin left a comment on my post last night about Family Blessings, noting that Michael Card had put the verses beginning "The Lord bless you and keep you" to music on his album Sleep Sound In Jesus, and suddenly that beautiful music was playing in my mind.
Yes! This is a MUST-HAVE for any family. A nurse gave me a Sleep Sound in Jesus cassette in 1992 during one of Jonny's countless early hospital bouts. I can't begin to tell you what a comfort it was to me as we dealt with the life-saving medical intervention he underwent.
It has been a family treasure ever since. And Sophia was very happy to discover it was a favorite in her sweetheart Josh's family too.
If you have children under 12 - or even maybe older - you should get this album, which is available also at Amazon as an MP3 download
.
This is a wonderful baby or shower gift too. I used to keep a few on my "presents shelf" in my closet. While it's fun to pick out an outfit, an outfit doesn't last long, but this special music nestles in the hearts of every member of the family for years and years and years.

Aww!!! Someone gave me this when I was pregnant with Christian. (I had it on tape, that's how long ago it was. Christian is 20 now.) What sweet memories.

My mom gave me this CD when my daughter was born, and we love it! It is such a peaceful collection of songs for bedtime. I've fallen asleep myself many times when rocking my kids and listening to it. :)

My younger sister was named "Barocha" after one of the songs on this album. Michael Card has always been a family favorite, and he's written two of my favorite songs: "God's Own Fool" and "Joy In The Journey." The depth and insights in his lyrics are amazing. His songs about the incarnation of Christ are phenomenal!

I loved this CD! His CD "Close You Eyes So You Can See" is also nice.
With my 3rd child, someone gave me this one:

It became an instant favorite, equal to Sleep Sound in Jesus. (I see 8 of 8 reviews on Amazon are 5 stars, so apparently I'm not alone!) It also has "The Lord Bless You...". The song "Jasmine" is synonymous in my mind with that perfect feeling of rocking my baby in the soft glow of a nightlight. The transitional notes between "Who is There" and "Mary in the Stable" (only there when listening to the whole CD) bring instantaneous peace to me. And I sang wholeheartedly to that little baby along with "I lay you down in His presence and protection." Can you tell it wound it's way into the fabric of my heart? : )
