Motherhood: politics, priorities and prayer

woman_writing2.gif I don't want to talk about Egypt. It's too big and complicated and right now my heart is filled with closer-to-home issues.

That doesn't mean that you should not pay attention. I think that God gives us seasons of activity among different spheres of involvement. That means if you feel called to get involved, you should get involved. If you feel called to focus on home, then focus on home. But we still have to know what is going on in the larger world - so we're ready when we get called back into involvement.

All of us need to continue working to find and support conservative candidates for the next election cycle. (And ugh, I hate that we start this demoralizing stuff so far ahead.) And we need to keep up with current events.

I said I didn't want to talk about Egypt, but that doesn't mean I'm not keeping up. I actually have a split screen on my computer and while I work I am also listening to/partially watching Al Jazeera English live stream. At this point, all we can do is watch because yes, it is good to see signs of democracy stirring in a country governed for decades by a dictator. But the scary factor is that history shows that in times like this, radical Islamist groups either seize control or worm their way in with soft talk and and harsh intentions. This is a deja vu of what happened on Jimmy Carter's watch when the Shah of Iran was exiled and the country was taken over by radical fundamentalists.

The Muslim Brotherhood is scary. The fact that Obama is supporting them is scary. The threat to Israel is scary.

My advice to moms is to keep open to the Holy Spirit and be ready to do anything asked of you. But even if this is a season where you are more focused on home, do keep informed and pass on whatever you can to your sphere of influence - through blogs, Facebook, and your email list.

In the meantime, there's no need for me to duplicate the work/reporting/analysis others are doing so well. I will be focusing more on life, family and education issues for a while (but remember, all that could change on a dime :)

I have a list of news sources on my right sidebar. If you have time to read only a few, I recommend that you scan the headlines at Drudge at least once each day (and maybe more, because they are changing all the time)

For analysis, I especially recommend Thoughts from a Conservative Mom and Pundit&Pundette. For snarky humor and unusual insights, I recommend Michelle Obama's Mirror.

If you are inclined to radio, listen to Rush Limbaugh (If you can't listen in real time, you can join his 24/7 and listen with no ads later). And know that by now we should all understand that the more hated a public figure is in this country, the more right they probably are. You see, it's not the right that is the fountain of vitriol, but the Left, which seethes with hatred for anyone who doesn't fall in line with the Media Propaganda - like Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Michelle Malkin (they're especially savage towards women, aren't they?), Tea Party activists - and Rush.

If you have accepted the Propaganda Press's definition of Rush without ever investigating for yourself, I suggest you listen for two weeks - you will be surprised to find him an exuberant, optimistic, high-on-the-American-people and very gifted analyst.

It's not Rush's fans that are mind-numbed robots, but leftists who can't even see that the true hatred in this country is in their rhetoric, not in ours. Please see Michelle Malkin's The progressive "climate of hate:" An illustrated primer, 2000-2010. Be ready to challenge these ridiculous charges - like Sarah Palin being responsible for Tuscon, which was proven not even remotely true, but which the Propaganda Press never retracted, leaving many mind-numbed robots with that lie. And be ready to defend other conservatives.

Conservatives have much to be proud of. But a lot more work ahead. We all need to get better at our game, listen for the prompting of the Holy Spirit about seasons and spheres of influence, keep up with politics from local to international, and transmit to our children the importance of everyday citizens being involved.

It's a tall order, but thank God for the Internet! No wonder Obama and his regime want legislation for a kill-switch to be able to shut down communication. But then again, with this Regime, who needs to follow the rules anyway?

In times like these, what's a mother to do?

"Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves;
so be shrewd as serpents and innocent as doves."
~ Matthew 10:16 ~

"Pray as though everything depended on God.
Work as though everything depended on you."
~ St. Augustine ~

Being a busy mom doesn't mean you don't have time to pray - the theme of my book Lord, Please Meet Me in the Laundry Room: Heavenly Help for Earthly Moms. Love this reminder:

There are times when no matter the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees. ~ Victor Hugo ~

Remember always - and don't let anything or anyone dissuade you: your job as mother is the most important job of all!

~ The Hand That Rocks the Cradle Rules the World ~

And a special shout-out to Devo101, who continues to harass me with charges of hatred whenever I mention Obama, while ignoring the hatred in his own heart for anyone who disagrees with him politically. All I can say is how grateful I am that he continues to read here daily!

Love,
