Starry Starry Night - Van Gogh slideshow
This piece by Don McLean came out in the 70's but I hope that those of you much younger than I have heard it. Don is most famous for his cryptic song American Pie - and I guess he's still making music because I found a website for him.
And btw, if you've never seen the actual original Van Gogh paintings, see if there are any in a museum near you. The ones I've seen at the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Smithsonian in DC have just taken my breath away. You just can't capture the heavy brush strokes on a flat print or computer screen.
Van Gogh was a genius - like many, a tortured one. But he saw things most of us can't see on our own. Though he only sold one painting before taking his own life at the age of 37, he left us a legacy of great passion and beauty.
Just thought you might like to share this with your older kids.
