Catholic Heritage Curriculum - Catholic homeschool

Monica also sent a link to this site you may want to explore:

Catholic Heritage Curricula's exclusive materials and lesson plans fit together to provide a solid, complete, family-friendly PreK-12 Catholic education. It is CHC's belief that, when solid academics are offered in a gentle, flexible manner, the vast majority of children will blossom spiritually, emotionally, and academically. CHC's educational approach lays a joyful foundation, resulting in children who achieve at and above grade level, do not 'burn out,' and instead 'learn how to learn.' While CHC offers complete homeschool programs with lesson plans, ours is not a 'pre-packaged' curriculum. Rather, CHC's plans are constructed to allow maximum choice and flexibility to fit your student, while at the same time providing a complete education. We invite you to enjoy perusing the online samples of CHC's unique Lesson Plans and exclusive PreK-12 materials.

Anyone with experience with this curriculum, please leave a comment!

I used some of the materials for the younger grades. They were for the most part, nicely done and easy to use. However, I wasn't too impressed with the HS curriculum or the middle school. Very Catholic, but rather weak academically. They use Saxon math, which doesn't always work with everyone. The science for HS doesn't include physics or chemistry.
What I really wish was out there was something like BobJonesPress puts out- complete curriculum, including videos of teachers explaining concepts- I just have never found a good enough Catholic academic curriculum. I've homeschooled for over 20- 6 kids-and I'm tired of putting together stuff and find that half of it is weak.
It's too bad they can't bring back the books like my husband used in Catholic HS, only re-written to be up to date.

We have been using CHC for several years. I love it for the younger grades, but I agree that some of the materials for middle school and high school are not as thorough as they could be. Their high school book is for designing your own curriculum and takes me a lot of work to plan.

I have also chosen to make substitutions in some areas, such as using Math-U-See instead of Saxon or Modern Curriculum Press, and coming up with my own hands-on art projects, among others.

We've been using the live and recorded courses at Homeschool Connections for a few months, and those, along with select lessons from Khan Academy, have been very helpful in supplementing our plans.

One thing I have found true about using CHC is that my kids are more independent in their lessons. "Learning how to learn" as they say.

I am teaching grades 11,6,3,and K this year.

I just love the language arts and spelling program through CHC. I have a dysgraphic child who needs more space to write and I love the lines that the workbooks give him.........very age appropriate. The spelling program is phonetically based which is what we need right now. My son's spelling improved two (at least) grade levels in the past 5 months from using this program.
We also use the MCP math and love it! It is laid out in a very plain way which is good for my son.
I must say though that I find the curriculum weak in science and history/geography and so I only just use the LA and math portions of the program.
Not sure there is a "perfect" program that one can just follow out there. Every child is different and so one must pull from various resources in order to get the perfect fit:)
