Wisconsin teachers exploit kids
Of course this is an ongoing problem in this country, where the NEA (National Education Association) has pitted teachers against parents and taxpayers - and where Al Shankar, former president of the teachers union has put it plainly: " I don't represent the children. I represent the teachers."
Once upon a time, teaching children was a sacred trust; teachers knew they were not to impose their political views on their students. And today, they are certainly prohibited from openly expressing Christian or conservative views.
But when it comes to leftist views, there are no limits. And so we have the sad spectacle of propagandized children chanting phrases taught to them by morally bankrupt teachers:
Wisconsin protesters get children to chant
Ironic, the chant: "This is what democracy looks like." The fact is that democracy looks like people who lined up at the voting booth in November 2010 to elect someone who would balance the budget.
Actually, this is what mob rule looks like - and brainwashing, propaganda and exploitation of children.
This subversion of ethical teaching practice escalated violently during the Obama presidential campaign, when teachers taught their kids worship songs for the man they wanted to put into office, and even ridiculed children from conservative families.
We've come a long way from Norman Rockwell:

I'm a public school teacher and an orthodox Catholic. I have been discriminated against because of my views, and watched as teachers were allowed to bring yoga into the classroom without an administrator batting an eyelash, among other things.
But to call Wisconsin teachers morally bankrupt, I believe we as Christians are stooping to a low level. No child would be present at the Capital without express permission of their parents. Perhaps these children have parents who share the same views with teachers.
That said, I do believe this is exploitation of children. I also believe that school administrators, who are not represented by the teachers' union, make more money and receive raises regularly. I also believe that government officials, such as the Governor, elected officials and justices make substantial salaries, more than any mid-level teacher, and should be willing to put their salaries and benefits on hold as well. Where is the commentary on these salaries that are well over $100,00? Here is an overview of Wisconsin governmental salaries: http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/Wisconsin_state_government_salary
Teachers do not have to be made the enemy. If government employees need to sacrifice, it is only fair that ALL of them should be doing the same.

LOL Oh the irony (and hypocrisy) of anyone religious complaining about brainwashing children.

Mark from Portland -
Did you receive a public school education? Just asking because you are certainly missing a few basic bits of logic here.
Parents are responsible for training their children the way they see fit. Perhaps you will brainwash yours in the religion of atheism.
However, teachers do not have the right to brainwash kids - which is why they aren't allowed to talk about Christianity.
LOL my LOL-brained friend!

Mark is a hit-and-run. It's too bad he's not interested in real conversation.

Mark's been too busy debating me on the Oregon Tea Party page (I'm a moderator there):

I am utterly exhausted with his idiocy, but for the benefit of the 2000+ members we have on that page, his ridiculous arguments must be rebutted.
Bottom line from this Carl Sagan wannabe: when religious parents teach their kids, they are "brainwashing" them. When Secular Humanists use the power of the state to impose their own worldview on other people's children - even against the will of the parents - they are merely "exposing" them to "other ideas" through "logic, evidence, and reasoned arguments."
He's a statist bully masquerading as Libertarian.
