Hattie and Josh update
Hattie has had several setbacks this week. Holes in her lung have required a drainage tube and the suction has created a problem with leaking spinal fluid - requiring another drain.
Yesterday, they decided to operate - her 11th surgery - to patch the holes in the lung with tissue from her stomach. It was a delicate operation and took 4 hours but the doctors feel it was successful.
This morning they are having a hard time balancing Hattie's heart rate and blood pressure, which are complicated by the thyroid medication she needs (her thyroid was removed three years ago and though it was discovered to be cancerous after her first spinal cord surgery. is considered to be the origin/type of cancer she has).
It's still a long haul and Hattie and Josh will still be in the hospital beyond Easter. Please keep them in your prayers.
You can leave messages for them at Hattie's blog, which has not been updated since before the latest hospitalization.

Oh, that poor body of hers. She's been through so much. I'm so grateful for her and for all of us that because of Easter, because of His love and power, God will one day make all things NEW and we will spend eternity in new bodies!
Happy Easter.

A priest who is preacher of the papal household said yesterday, "How do you convince someone that a drink isn't poisoned? YOU drink it first." He said that is what our Lord has done for us through is passion and painful death. He then said that there must be a great pearl at the bottom of this chalice of suffering and that this pearl is eternal life.
Hattie and Josh have drunk deeply of the chalice of pain and suffering. Only Christ can heal her, comfort and sustain them. May they be consoled by our Lord drinking first the chalice of suffering and by the pearl of great price which is their inheritance.
