Loudoun: Chesapeake Bay plan - power grab

eco fascist.jpg

Eco-fascism: I can't believe that in the land of the free we are actually discussing a proposal which would ban homeowners from planting trees and flowers on their own property!!!

Loudoun citizens - it's time to wake up to the true nature of our current Board of Supervisors and their desire to control even the smallest aspect of your environment! Did you know that their "globally-compliant" Chesapeake Bay Plan would forbid the planting of trees and flowers dear to the Hears of Virginians?

Please keep informed. Educate your friends and neighbors and show up to fight this. Hopefully in November we will vote ourselves free of those supervisors who have proven themselves more committed to radical agendas than to serving their constituents.

Received as a comment to last week's post Loudoun: Urge BOS to vote NO on Chesapeake Bay plan:

Barbara, the local volunteer citizen group that has been fighting this is Loudoun Environmental Council.

LEC has been getting people to public input sessions, have hired professional engineers to analyze the proposal, and are prepared to notify the owners of the 9,011 properties encumbered by the no disturb buffers (many unwitting suburban owners will be severely impacted) with a letter. We are holding the letter until next week at this point to see if Mr. Burton changes his vote on the record and to see if the CBPO fails.

This is a draconian ordinance that prohibits planting in the no disturb buffer, unless you have an engineered plan prepared by a certified arborist/forester to show all the "vegetation" (height, caliper, species, etc.) and where/what you will plant and how it will encourage wildlife. You must bond the plantings to ensure against deer browse, while you are required to plant for wildlife!

An owner also may not plant many common trees -- like the dogwood, not allowed. Cherry trees, not allowed. NO crepe myrtles, and the list goes on. And many flowers are not allowed, like azaleas or daffodils. There are serious penalties if you disturb the no disturb area in any way not ok'd by the County. You may not even take down a dead or dying tree without submitting a plan and getting permission from the County...

And this is just one aspect of this ordinance, which is very complex...

We have also analyzed the science, and found the County is justifying these extreme measures based on "false statistical claims."

Visit Loudoun Environmental Council's website for A LOT of specific information about the Ches Bay Preservation Ordinance.

Don't take this lying down! Good luck!

Our township commissioners are trying to outlaw any pets except for cats or dogs. Their rationale is that they are tired of people asking if keeping chickens is permissible, so they're making it (and everything else) illegal. How, exactly, do you enforce such an ordinance?

Grrr. The meeting is on Thursday. We'll see then if these elected officials are reasonable men, or pigheaded bullies.
