Catholic Converts: Evangelical pastor Jeff Cavins

Former Evangelical Pastor Jeff Cavins endorses Catholics Come Home from Catholics Come Home on Vimeo.

Jeff Cavins is a cradle Catholic who left the Catholic Church and served as a Evangelical Protestant pastor for 12 years. After continued study, Cavins returned to the Church of his youth and now leads Catholic Bible conferences and presentations around the United States. He may be best known for "The Great Adventure Bible Study." His books and videos include, "I'm Not Being Fed" and "My Life on the Rock".

Curious how something like this can happen? I've heard so many stories from evangelicals and protestants who misunderstood and maligned Catholics who somehow found they were wrong. MANY are pastors and seminary students whose research/studies awaken them to the fact that our faith did not begin with reformers, but has indeed been handed down from the early church.

For more information, I recommend Catholics Come Home, which is a reader-friendly site with links from the home page for "I used to be Catholic," "I'm not Catholic," and "I'm Catholic" (but wanting to grow in my faith).

catholics come home.jpgMy own personal experience converting 3-1/2 years ago after 20 years of evangelicalism is that the Church has helped me understand and grow in my faith; to take the biblical knowledge I was bathed in as an evangelical and to truly apply it in my life; to accept the role of suffering in our lives rather than constantly asking God for "blessings," to better sacrifice and serve others with no expectations, to properly prioritize a rather complex life and to be a better wife and mother.

Amen to all of that! Being a convert, I also might add that being on the True Presence of Christ has added the staying power to the virtues I strove for, and His Power in place of willpower.

Kelly, thanks for connecting those important dots. Yes, it is certainly the sacrament of the Holy Eucharist which makes the difference. I like how you put it: His power instead of my willpower :)
