Loudoun Republican convention yesterday
We went to the Republican Convention yesterday to help select our candidate for chairman of the Board of Supervisors. It was quite an experience and I recommend it for anyone to see how the process works - which is not always how you want it to work :)Actually, the way the vote went down - the popular vote going for our guy and the weighted vote going for the career politician who's been running the show/switching parties in Loudoun for too long - only confirmed why I want to turn my attention to more positive things for a while. The political world can get along without my help for a while.
Still, the morning was fun - great to see so many people we knew.
The best part of the day was taking pictures of our #7, #8 and #9 - Sophia, Jonny and Maddy, who graciously went with us and did their part too.
They earned their burritos at Moe's!

That is such a great photo! It reminded me of what we say in Japan when a man is walking or standing between two women - "ryo-te ni hana," or, "a flower in each hand." :o)

Despite our voting differences, it is important for everybody to do their part and I commend you for teaching your kids that.
But I do have to fix one mistake you made in your blog post above. The popular vote was actually won by Scott York by roughly 50+ people. It was close, but Scott York did win it.
But Stockman had a good turnout, fought a tough fight, and made a very graceful exit. Hopefully he will find other ways he can stay involved and help Loudoun County.

I just wanted to fix an error in my comment. It was actually roughly 30+ popular votes, not 50, that Scott won by. Not sure where the 50 came from.

The Republican Call for Convention lists the number of delegate votes assigned to each district (based on 1 delegate vote per 25 Republican votes cast in the most recent presidential and gubernatorial elections):
http://www.loudoungop.com/lcrc_docs/2011LCRCCallpubws.pdf
The number of participants attending by district that day determined the individual weight of each delegate's vote from among those assigned to the district in the call.
Per the call, Dulles had 416 district votes (cast by 43 people).
Broad Run had 405 (cast by 74 people)
Algonkian had 506 (cast by 97 people)
Sterling had 332 (cast by 100 people)

Hope this helps!
