Catholics: Why a crucifix instead of a cross?
As an Evangelical, I remember scoffing at Catholics who "kept Jesus on the Cross" when we all knew he was resurrected.
As I new Catholic I once attended a Baptist Easter service because Maddy had been hired to sing. When the pastor spotted me in the congregation, he launched into a diatribe on the subject, with all the familiar lingo.
I was not troubled, because as a Catholic, I had come to understand that I needed to be reminded of the tremendous sacrifice Jesus had made for me.
But I came across this today and thought it might provide some food for thought:

I can't imagine running up to someone and attacking them about their faith - especially on such a tiny matter of faith. As Christians we need to stop talking Catholic and Protestant. We need to embrace the shared core of our faith and focus on this, rather than on our differences.

Kristina - The Body of Christ is like a family. While we should all be united against our enemies and ready to defend our faith, it is healthy to talk about our differences. as long as we respect each other.
If you are referring to my recent post on why Catholics have crucifixes rather than crosses, I am very happy to explain why I posted it. First of all, with over 9000 posts here, you can tell I am an information/communication junkie. I love learning things and sharing what I have learned.
When I became an evangelical 24 years ago, I heard and quickly absorbed many prejudicial judgements about Catholics - one being that smug "We know better! We know Jesus isn't on the Cross anymore because He was resurrected" I'm sure every evangelical reading this has said and/or heard that or something similar. But had any one every asked a Catholic or done a little research to find out if there was a legitimate reason?
So when I came across that little video today, I liked that it was short, concise, friendly and based on the Bible (since I had also been brainwashed into thinking Catholics did not read the Bible). I'm not big into theological treatises of endless arguments. I just thought it might illuminate an area of misunderstanding and perhaps do away with misunderstanding and disrespect.
I like finding out new things. and I like to think I'm open to changing my mind when presented with something contrary to what I've been told. I expect that of others, but some people feel very uncomfortable with this, I know. I appreciate those people sticking with me anyhow :)
Like I said, we're like a family. The world should see us united. But I would not feel like it was healthy if everyone were so concerned with being "nice" that they were paralyzed from talking about things that matter.
love,
barbara
