DIY School/Christmas portraits - save $$$
One thing being a megamom will do is bring out the I-Can-Do-This-Myself in you! From learning to make hash from leftovers to giving haircuts (With a husband and 8 sons, I've probably saved my family over $25,000) to - creating your own studio portraits? This mom did and shows us how:
DIY School/Christmas Portraits for Less $$$
So I'm really posting this to show off the kids, but it occurs to me that I have stumbled upon a great idea that others, parents or not, may benefit from in this new age of digital photography: Do-It-Yourself portraits!I've said before, as have my friends with large families, that having a lot of kids forces you to simplify your life. This all started for me three years ago when I took six kids into the mall portrait studio. Five were in car seats, three were in diapers. $400 and two hours later, on the verge of the public meltdown that would have landed me on the local evening news ("Local Mom Lies on Mall Floor Sobbing While Kids Run Free in Food Court"), I left the mall with some photos that would pass. But it wasn't worth it.In addition to $400 for one round of portraits (two kids had red eyes from crying, one had the messy hair from rolling in the floor), there are also the school portraits at a minimum of $30 a kid each year for pictures I usually forget to mail out anyway and leave sitting in a file folder unshared, thus wasting over $100 a year. Plus there are the million adorable little moments that I wish, so wish, were captured professionally. But I'll never, ever go to the mall again for portraits with six kids.

Thanks for the post. Having had similar experiences trying to take my small children for photos I've gone the DIY route as well. However, the result has always been a little less then professional quality. As my kids get a bit older I'm trying to decide if I should continue the DIY route or try taking them to have pictures done. I checked out the Cowboystudio photography she recommended. Lots of neat looking toys for a DIYer.
