Leesburg Courthouse display: Santa crucified
This is all in retaliation for private citizens asserting their right to continue displaying a creche and a Christmas tree - which had been displayed for decades - on the Leesburg Courthouse lawn.
There is a difference between freedom of expression and hate speech - also something that will confuse and frighten children.
Supervisor-elect Ken Reid writes:
Dear Friend :
Attached are photos one of my constituents just sent me.
I was so utterly outraged when I saw this. How utterly offensive to children, especially, to see a beloved symbol of the holidays crucified and mocking Christianity!
According to Leesburg Today, this is "A piece of art work" to "depict society's materialistic obsessions and addictions and how it is killing the peace, love, joy and kindness that is supposed to be prevalent during the holiday season," submitted by Middleburg resident Jeff Heflin Jr.
Maybe someone should contact Mr. Heflin and kindly request he remove such a disgusting display and put it on his own lawn in Middleburg.
It is my intent as the new Supervisor for Leesburg to change the County policy so these outrageous anti religious displays are not debasing the lawn of our beloved Courthouse. Just the way Christians have rallied against anti-Semitism and support Israel, I, as a Jew, will return the favor and help lead the fight to stop this mockery of Christmas and Christian beliefs.
But unfortunately because the outgoing Board of Supervisors did nothing to stop this, these disgusting displays will defile our Courthouse and the Christmas holiday season this year!
I will alert my press list.
Leesburg Town Council
Supervisor-elect, Leesburg District
19B Wirt Street SW
Leesburg, VA 20175
1) Anyone have an address or phone number for this person? On Anywho.com I found a Jeffrey Heflin listed in White Post, VA - which is not in Loudoun County. Is this his father? Or is Jeffrey Heflin not a true Loudoun resident?
If anyone can find his address in Middleburg, I will publish and we can meet there some time to sing Christmas carols. If he is not a Loudoun resident, perhaps he is not allowed to place things on our courthouse lawn?
2) Also, tonight, many people are at our current Board of Supervisors meeting to protest this display. Please continue to contact them. I think this is retaliation for being voted out of office.
3) Report hate speech and three years of encouraging harassment of the Christian community by our current Board of Supervisors to:
- Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli
- Liberty Counsel
- Thomas More Society
- America Center for Law and Justice
If it is indeed a "piece of art work" to "depict society's materialistic obsessions and addictions and how it is killing the peace, love, joy and kindness that is supposed to be prevalent during the holiday season," then by gathering to sing carols (a rather unmaterialistic, loving and joyful activity), you have served his purpose.

I believe that this is Heflin's mother: https://www.facebook.com/JenelleHamilton (esp. since her facebook picture is a skeleton in a Santa suit.) I think she lives in Marshall, VA and is originally from Winchester. She is shown as a medical transcriptionist working for "CHS" at 703-760-0894 in Reston.
There is a high school kid in Frederick named Jeffrey Heflin. One of his Facebook friends is a girl named "Jenn Heflin." That may or may not be a connection.
Jenelle (the mother) can be found on the atheist's website: http://www.meetup.com/NOVA-Atheists/members/9823895/
This is for those who are curious. I suggest that no one contact any of these people.
