Woodgrove's Ric Gauriloff "retires" - Loudoun Schools mum
Yes, it's certainly strange to get a robocall from our Superintendent of Schools Edgar Hatrick just a couple days before Christmas vacation to inform us that the principal of Woodgrove High School has resigned and someone has already been named to move into his place.
I smell a scandal. And also another of those idiotic situations where a public employee is guilty of wrongdoing, but instead of being fired, get to resign to keep their pension and benefits.

Woodgrove High School Principal Resigns Posted on December 19, 2011by Danielle Nadler
Ric Gauriloff, principal of Woodgrove High School, has officially submitted his retirement, Loudoun County Public Schools announced today.
Gauriloff has been out of the office for at least the past two weeks, according to several individuals who work for the school system. The sources also indicated that Gauriloff's resignation comes in the wake of allegations of harassment toward women on staff. Wayde B. Byard, the school system's public information officer would not confirm the allegations.
Gauriloff has not been charged with a crime and there is no pending investigation, according to Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell.

Only one published comment at LT so far:
The school board and supt were alerted to gauriloff's penchants years ago when he worked at mercer. Alleged affair with teacher, improprieties with PTA funds and inappropriate, angry encounters with parents, falsifying school survey results, mistreating minority parents. But everybody ignored it and promoted him/moved him. wonder what was so bad this time that he actually is forced to "retire" (read: keep his pay)
Hmmmm...... isn't this the kind of thing people rip the Catholic Church for - even though there we're talking about things decades ago?
Doesn't the public deserve to know the truth and should a multiple offender be able to retire with full benefits and honors?

I have met the interim replacement and I think they could not have found a finer man. Dr. Markley is top notch.

That's good news!

Good to know that Dr. Markley is reputable. I was suprised as anyone at the robocall and frustrated that we're not given more information. Am actually dealing with a similar situation at the recent "leave" of Woodgrove Honors Biology Teacher Mrs. Olgren. I was given very little info as to why she has left and only able to piece together info from my student daughter and the recent parents' meeting held in the library last week. Not looking foward to her returning in the new year. Funny how they tend to circle the wagons when people misbehave or are incompetent.

The news articles have told us nothing concrete other than "allegations". There are no formal charges filed, no pending investigations, no named sources and much conjecture. This man has a daughter, who also attends Woodgrove. Perhaps he resigned to save her Senior year from being absolutely miserable? It is difficult to prove a negative and it is with much facility that one's name and reputation be smeared. Rather than pig pile on this man, seek the truth whatever it may be.

I read your bio, and I'm very surprised at how quickly you judged this situation. I too,am a Conservative, home-schooled at one time and was a bit jaded as to the public school system's cavalier attitude towards education. However, I do believe everyone is innocent until proved otherwise. This man has "alleged" inproprieties stapled to his name and if innocest of these accusations, will you and others give this the same attention?

I am seeking the truth and gathering information. I think many of us are asking why there are no investigations. For a principle to resign with no reason or notice points to a cover-up.
A month or two ago, the first allegations about Sandusky and Paterno were greeted with the same kind of bulldoggish loyalty and lack of curiosity being shown here. In fact students RIOTED in support of Paterno.
They were very wrong, as it turned out Paterno had been informed of pedophilia under his watch and had covered it up and allowed it to continue.
How could you not get that just because a man looks good to 95% of the people, he is not incapable of wrongdoing?
I am not saying Mr. G is guilty. I'm saying he might be and we should be told the truth about the circumstances regarding his leaving.
As to those who invoke his daughter as a reason to hush everything up: sorry, but if Mr. G. was engaging in risky behavior, he is the one that should have thought of her first.
