Obama's war on conscience: what can we do?

obama stop.jpgI received this four days ago but really had nothing substantial or hopeful with which to respond:

Hi Barbara!  I hope you're well.  Frankly, I'm beside myself.  Listen, I read your blog faithfully, but I can't recall if you've done any writing on this issue specifically.  I've been praying about this latest attack by the current administration on my (our) Catholic conscience and freedom, but honestly I feel compelled to DO something in addition to my prayers.  I'm just not sure what to do or how to do it . . . other than writing my Congressman and Senators, which I'm in the process of doing.  I'm wondering if you've heard of any activity related to this issue.  It's all well and good that our bishops are vocalizing their adamant displeasure, but I can't help but feel that we Catholics in the pews need to do more if we're to protect ourselves from being forced into becoming complicit.  What do you know, if anything, of any grass roots organizing in opposition to this mandate?  What, if anything, is happening in this regard in your parish or diocese?  I know you're very busy, but, if and when you have a minute, if you could respond to me via email or post about it, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for all you do for your readers.
What a difference four days make! As reported by New Advent: Obama awakens a sleeping giant: 111 bishops speak out against HHS mandate....  Our Catholic leadership is rising up to defend our faith!!!

For this four-years-ago convert, this is exciting news.  And I'm thinking that perhaps the Catholic Church will be cleansed as those who show up for Mass and yet deny some of the most basic tenets of our faith will leave for more wishy-washy climes.  I for one will be glad to see a more militant, assertive church - and along with Obama's disrespect and history of using Catholic moderates as cover, this may just be the straw that broke the faithful Catholic's back.

So while when I first read this email, I didn't have the hope or optimism to respond, today I do.  I have created a new category: Obama War on Conscience, where you can read everything I've posted and will continue to post.

Subscribe to CatholicVote.org and CatholicAdvocate.com.  Bookmark NewAdvent.org to keep up with the news.

Use all your social networking to spread the word - to spread hope that we can break the grip of oppression which Obama has begun.

I also want to recommend that you go to Doug Lawrence's Just Another Faithful Catholic and read

We're all called to stand up for human life ... for the truth ... and for what's right and good.

Love,

I agree! As much as I don't like being under attack, I am so proud to see my Church be the one to take on this tyrannical hack of a president. Michael Savage always says that the Pope is the only remaining moral voice in this world; pray for our guys! And act where called.

I too have wondered if this would help cleanse our Church of half-hearted (or less!) Catholics. Or better yet - strengthen them to become more devout in their Catholic faith!!!

Barbara - I missed this last night as I was reading because I got so caught up in the posts up top about the apparent victory with Susan G. Komen. I was so excited, and in such a rush to spread the news to some of my faithful friends, I didn't read all the way down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I think it's a fantastic idea to put all your related posts in one category where they're easily accessible.

Like you, my hope is renewed. I'm hoping and praying that some of our lukewarm brethren will use this as an opportunity to re-evaluate their positions on life issues and re-educate themselves on the Church teachings. It's disheartening to know that 54% of "Catholics" were willing to vote for Obama, and willing to fall for his lies. In many ways I think this is the perfect time for this groundswell of agitation. I'm hoping that as we approach this next election in November, the masses will be better exposed to this critical issue, and really think through their decisions on exactly who they want representing them.

NEVER let anyone tell you it's imprudent to be a ONE ISSUE VOTER! In the end, that ONE ISSUE is the only ISSUE that matters.
