Downton Abbey withdrawal? Here's help
I will do nothing to spoil the end of Season II of Downton Abbey, and I hope - for newbies' sakes - that no one else does either. This has been the most delicious thing I've seen on TV since the first season of 24, in terms of leaving viewers hanging week to week. And isn't it funny, but both these radically different Men-are-from-Mars/Women-from-Venus series were ones Tripp and I could enjoy side-by-side and discuss all week long:
But that was then and this is now. Will there be a Season Three of Downton Abbey? We do so hope so. In the meantime, vor those suffering from withdrawals, here are some suggestions:
Best Maggie Moments (too brief, by far):
Watch Downton Abbey: The Best Maggie Moments on PBS. See more from Masterpiece.
This is just a taste of hours of material available at The Masterpiece Theater website, with previous episodes, interviews of cast members (love seeing who they are in real life!), historical background, behind the scenes slideshows, even online chats - see next entry for today's chat with Mr. Bates!
One suggestion: If you're going to watch Downton Abbey, start with Season One!

We, too, are already missing Downton Abbey!!! I find it hard to wait for the next (I hope!) season!
I agree with you, Barbara--this is the best television I have seen in many, many years. I just love the real history.
I've wasted a bit of time today, looking at various clips about producing the show and have a couple of good ones to share....
***talking about re-creating WWI: http://video.pbs.org/video/2188314278
***a facinating article about the real Lord & Lady of the real castle, Highclere, during the time period depicted in the series: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/downtonabbey/season2_countess.html
The story about Lord & Lady Carnarvon is facinating and yet typical of people of wealth who want to give back. This one is well worth reading (the article/interview) and it has me now wanting to read the book.
In addition to all of the history, my family talks about all the nuances that we notice with the filming. Did anyone else notice the slightly gray lens they used when the scene and emotions depicted were low and/or devastating?
Oh, this series is just so GOOD!

Favorite Maggie/Violet line of the evening.....
....to Sir Richard when he said they might not meet again: "Do you promise?"
I cheered!

Yes, there will be a Season Three! Shirley Maclaine will play Cora's mother.

Is this the same Downtown Abbey that had two guys kissing? I am almost positive that I saw two guys intimately kissing in the first season. I stopped watching at that point. How can we promote Christ but overlook blatant sin just for entertainments sake?
