Boycotts? What do you think?

A comment which deserves discussion:
I'm wondering if Amazon's support of gay marriage will make you rethink your affiliation? It seems like an easy stand to take:Amazon's Founder Pledges $2.5 Million in Support of Same-Sex Marriage
My reply:
Hi Rachel -
Honestly, I've decided that I'm not interested in boycotting private corporations - particularly those which add to the quality of my life, as Amazon has for 15 years. They have saved me time and money and saved me from purchases I might have regretted through customer reviews, which I depend on for the real scoop. I'm an affiliate not only because it helps support my website - and I'm grateful for the opportunity they've provided to communicators like me - but because making them my first stop which I need something has worked so well for me that I have confidence it will work well for others.
The recent Chick-fil-A debacle has caused settled this question once-and-for-all for me. As far as I'm concerned, the owners of private companies have the right to do what they wish with their money - just as the owner of Chick-fil-A should have the right to do what he wishes with his.
I will continue to encourage people not to donate to the Susan B. Komen Foundation (not a private company, but a tax-free foundation) because in the name of charity they collect funds from well-meaning people who want to help fight breast cancer - then they give a portion of those funds to Planned Parenthood, which profits from many practices that increase women's chances of breast cancer. Not to mention their constant push for promiscuity and corruption of young people.
Consistency is important. Here - as with free speech - the issue is whether people have the freedom to use their profits as they see fit.
On the other hand, I support the right of those who wish to boycott. We each need to decide this issue for ourselves.
And I also believe in lending extra support to businesses under persecution for Christian beliefs, so I encourage everyone to support Chick-fil-A!
Love,

Always enjoy coming by your "place" for a visit; I will check out your bbc recommendations for sure. We loved "Downton" and can't wait for January!
