Curtis Vacation 2012 Nags Head, NC
Last week we spent a wonderful, refreshing, healing time at Nags Head, North Carolina. We always go off-season because rentals are about 1/3 - but also because the beach is so much more peaceful when there's hardly anyone there - definitely easier with kids with special needs.
I turned in my manuscript the day before we left, so between the relief of that stress and the fact that I'm almost fully recovered, I was so ready. So fun to spend that time together in the same place we rent every year - a funky vintage house right on the beach. Every year we talk about getting a newer, more up-to-date rental the next year, and yet every year we go back to our special spot.
While last year we were blessed that all the Curtis kids and their spouses were with us - plus soon-to-be Curtis Emma the English Muffin - this year sadly, Ben and Anna, Sophia and Josh, Maddy, and Emma could not be with us because of jobs/school.
Hattie Curtis and I were the only women, and we did no cooking at all! Thanks to the men in the family, we had some great feasts, though! Hoping next time everyone can be with us!
I didn't grow up with family vacations, so it was something Tripp and I had to learn to do. I urge all families to make this a priority. To save money, go off season and rent a house so you can cook. While schools frown on taking the kids out, the work is easily made up, and as one of my kids' teachers said, "That's the way to go! Family first!"
