Way back in June, I received this new-fangled thermometer for review.

Okay, so I'm kidding with the new-fangled, but as a megamom, I've been watching the development of thermometers for 44 years. Yes, that includes the old rectal thermometers, the less invasive but less accurate battery-powered, the strips - you name it, we've used it at our house.

So I was pretty excited to receive this, but since it was only days before my fateful vacation, I put it aside to review when I got home. We all know what happened a few days later, when I broke my leg in California and came home - ending up in the hospital, where the nurses used this amazing thermometer.  When I came home, I got to use it too!

It is way cool - friendly to children, and yet producing results in which adults can be confident.

All I can say is Thank You, Exergen!

The Temporal Scanner Thermometer is a totally non-invasive system with advanced infrared technology providing maximum ease of use with quick, consistently accurate measurements.

Advanced, patented technology measures temperatures with a gentle stroke across the forehead.

The TempScanner1.jpgTemporalScanner Thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared to rectal thermometers and temperature sensors inserted in the heart during course of patient treatment and accepted for use in major hospitals, making it the ideal thermometer for use with newborns, infants, children or adults.

The TemporalScanner has patented software, providing arterial heat balance.

This unique process determines temperature by accurately measuring the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling (warming) caused by heat loss (gain) to the environment.
In addition to the one they sent me for review, Exergen has graciously offered an Exergen Temporal Artery Thermometer to one winner at MommyLife. Please leave a comment to enter a drawing for September 10. If you like, you can leave your funniest thermometer story.

With another newborn in the house, we would get a lot of use out of this. We haven't had much luck with digital thermometers, and have gone back to the mercury kind. (should I be broadcasting that admission?)

I think my husband would appreciate this!

Unfortunately, I don't have any funny thermometer stories, but I hate the normal thermometer - I think I have a smaller mouth than most people so it really pinches to put a thermometer under my tongue. I'd love to try this.

We just had a week of fevers (x4 kids) at our house, and this looks like it would be very useful!

Posted by: Amy | August 26, 2012 3:04 PM

Thankfully, we don't get sick very often, but when a bug comes around this would be nice to have with wiggly little boys and the hubby!

Posted by: Alison S. | August 27, 2012 12:33 PM

This definitely would make taking temps way easier!

Posted by: Bethany | August 28, 2012 8:37 AM

Sign me up! Ever tried to check temp on a kid with Dyspraxia? We use the under this arm, how about that arm, can mommy kiss your forehead method ;)

I don't have any funny thermometer stories. Instead I've just been thankful that I haven't had to try and take either of my kids temperatures. I'm sure the day will come when I will however, and this one looks so much easier than the one we received at our baby shower.

My child's doctor used one of these on our last visit. These thermometers are really neat. I'd love to have one of these!

My son doesn't do well with the ear thermometer, and he's too young to understand keeping one in his mouth, so I would love to have one of these!

Posted by: Hannah Elise | September 3, 2012 10:54 PM

... 'tis that time of year again!.. We'd love to have one of these! :)
